Sixteen people have been inculpated, by the Judge Sylvania Verstreken, in the case of the Belgium soccer matches that were supposedly set up. Even though the judge hasn’t made public the name of the inculpated, among the 16 people are the Lierse ex soccer players: Marius Mitu, Laurent Fassotte and Cliff Mardulier, as well as La Louvire ex coach: Gilbert Bodart, according to different sources close to the case.
A few weeks ago Bodart, Mitu, Fassotte and Mardulier were ceased from their clubs under the suspicion that they were implicated in the case of corruption that has been affecting the Belgium soccer championship for the last months. Two soccer agents, the president of La Louviere and his lawyer had been inculpated before in this case, though they were released shortly after. The investigation is focused on the First Division clubs, like Louviere, Lierse and Saint-Trond.
It is suspected that a betting mob has been in contact with these clubs through the Chinese businessman Ye Zheyun, who is actually being looked for. According to the Belgium justice, this mob proposed its financial help in exchange of the set up of certain match results in which the gamblers –specially from Asia- could play without risks.
