Million Dollar Baby: The Darko Milicic story. Quite a stretch for Hilary Swank.

Finding Neverland: It's the Lions' search for a Super Bowl. That "finding" part must mean it's a fairy tale.

Shrek 2: Everybody's favorite big, green pushover -- Michigan State -- lost to another classic, "Hoosiers."

San Francisco getting 2007 All-Star Game

14.jpg

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig will be in San Francisco on Wednesday to announce that the Giants will host the 2007 All-Star Game.

It was widely reported during the World Series in October that the Giants would get the game, but Selig will now make it official.

This will be the city's first time staging the Midsummer Classic since 1984, and a great chance to showcase SBC Park, the Giants' beautiful waterfront stadium that opened in 2000...

Super Bowl temptation to gamblers

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- One by one, they filed in for a Tuesday night meeting of Gamblers Anonymous.

One man wore an Eagles sweat shirt. One remembered the Super Bowl Sunday he spent babysitting his granddaughter, only to find himself with an uncontrollable urge to bet $10,000 on the game, 10 years after his last bet.

Then there was the newcomer, facing his first Super Bowl since he quit a lifelong addiction in which he bet up to $12,000 a game on the NFL.

"It's a tough week," he told the gathering. "It's the trifecta: We've got football, the Super Bowl and my favorite team playing."

Weary Belichick begins preparations for Eagles

12.jpg

Bill Belichick was ``runnin' on fumes'' Monday -- his brain and body still busy after a draining win that put his New England Patriots in another Super Bowl. A few early morning winks would have to do for a coach who treats wasted minutes as missed opportunities.

He even held a pre-dawn team meeting after the Patriots arrived from Pittsburgh at the airport outside Providence, R.I., at about 2:30 a.m.

``We're all pretty well spent,'' Belichick said. ``We don't want to feel good Monday. We want to put all our energy into the game and that's what they did.''

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves Friday agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent outfielder Raul Mondesi.

Financial terms were not released.
Mondesi split the 2004 campaign between Pittsburgh and Anaheim. He joined the Angels on May 29 as a free agent after the Pirates terminated his contract.

The 33-year-old veteran left Pittsburgh to address personal issues in his native Dominican Republic.

NFL

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Seahawks are considered one of the NFL's biggest disappointment this season. Matt Hasselbeck believes they're headed in the right direction.

Seattle lost to the NFC West rival St. Louis Rams 27-20 on Saturday in the wild-card round of the playoffs, ending an up-and-down season that opened with talk of a possible Super Bowl run.

"This has been a difficult season for all kinds of reasons," Hasselbeck said.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Odalis Perez agreed to re-sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, tentatively coming to terms on a $24 million, three-year contract.

The deal, likely to be completed within a few days, was confirmed by a person close to the pitcher who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Dodgers spokesman John Olguin said the team had no comment.

Marbury Turns the Garden Into His Playground

Fiery Knicks leaders, past and present, crossed paths at Madison Square Garden last night, and for the first time since Latrell Sprewell left town, it was clear the building no longer belonged to him.

Stephon Marbury now carries the fans' hopes and the team's emotion, and it was Marbury who left the greatest imprint on the evening, powering the Knicks to a 100-87 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

With the game tight down the stretch, Marbury cut up Minnesota's defense, scoring the Knicks' next 9 points as they pulled away. The 19,763 in the stands roared approval.

Woods wins Challenge

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- At this rate, Tiger Woods probably can't wait for the 2005 season to start.

Woods turned in his most complete round of a difficult year Sunday, missing only two fairways and one green in closing with a 5-under 66 for a two-shot victory over Padraig Harrington in the Target World Challenge.

It was Woods' second straight stroke-play title after going without one on the PGA Tour for the first time in his career.
